It could be both natural selection and the environment that shaped the species. I read of a branch of evolution that believes the ape evolved from man. There was some disagreement as to the fact that an ancient bone of a mammal had been covered with feathers but it was finally confirmed. Creationists are looking for absolute truth. I am still agnostic but enjoying the debate
